De eettafel (3) is the third drawing in a series of four. It depicts a man and a woman sitting together at a dining table. The woman is focused on a cake, while the man appears lost in thought.
Although the scene captures an intimate, everyday moment, the people in the drawing are unknown to Ponsen. She came across a collection of private photos online by chance, this unexpected discovery became the inspiration for the series.
The images share common visual elements: a dining table as the central focus, people seated around it, and a setting marked by patterns, wooden elements, and warm tones. However cosy it looks, the drawings carry a subtle tension. While a dining table usually evokes feelings of togetherness and warmth, these scenes seem to suggest distance or silence instead.
The works raise questions: Is it truly cozy at the table? What is the relationship between the people? And why are such seemingly ordinary moments shared online? Through this series, Ponsen explores the complexity of everyday images and the unexpected intersection of personal moments in the digital world.
